Summary
Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Arg) studied as a neuroprotective and recovery-enhancing agent that targets circadian and mitochondrial regulators [1]. In cell-based work it produces dose-dependent restriction of reactive oxygen species accumulation in cerebellar granule cells, neutrophils, and PC12 cells and decreases necrotic cell death, accompanied by modulation of ERK 1/2 activation and the cell cycle [2]. In rodents, administration to pregnant rats under methionine-induced hyperhomocysteinemia improved offspring cognitive function and made cerebellar neurons more resistant to oxidative stress [3], and in aged rats it influenced behavior and neurochemical processes under hypoxia and hypothermia [4]. All available evidence is preclinical (in-vitro and animal), and a recent review notes a current lack of clinical trials for this class of peptides [1], so there is no human evidence supporting therapeutic use.
