Summary
TB-500 is the synthetic fragment associated with thymosin beta-4, an endogenous peptide that functions primarily as the main intracellular G-actin-sequestering molecule in most vertebrate cells [3,4]. Through its effects on the actin cytoskeleton and cell motility, thymosin beta-4 has been implicated in tissue repair and regeneration, including reduced myofibroblast numbers, decreased scarring and fibrosis, and proposed applications in skin, eye, heart, and brain [1]. The peptide is largely unstructured, which is thought to underlie its many attributed functions via recognition of numerous molecular ligands [2,4]. The provided literature is foundational cell-biology and review material describing endogenous function and mechanism rather than controlled human trials of administered TB-500, so clinical therapeutic benefit is not established by these sources.
